Born and raised in South Jersey, Patrick M. Kane, M.D. returns home to join the South Jersey Hand Center. Whether it was spending time at the beach as a kid or competing in ocean races as a lifeguard, the shore has always been a special place for Dr. Kane and his family. He feels lucky and privileged to take care of the people who make the shore their home.

Medical Training & Education

Dr. Kane graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University.

After medical school, Dr. Kane completed his residency at Brown University in Providence, RI.

Dr. Kane is dual fellowship-trained having completed his Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University Fellowship Program and his Hand & Upper Extremity Fellowship at the nationally renowned Philadelphia Hand Center/Thomas Jefferson University Fellowship Program.

Additionally, Dr. Kane completed the Carroll Silver International Travelling Fellowship. As part of this fellowship, Dr. Kane traveled to Nicaragua to provide his expertise and care to the underserved population with various congenital, traumatic and complex pathological conditions of the upper extremity.

    Practice Goals & Philosophy

    Dr. Kane believes the best possible treatment requires both a comprehensive understanding of the disease process as well as a thorough understanding of the patient–who they are and how their injury has affected their lives.

    By integrating this philosophy into his practice, Dr. Kane finds multiple ways to treat a problem. Discussing the situation, presenting the various treatment options, and then deciding as a physician/patient team result in the best possible care.

    The practice focuses on a patient's hand, wrist, arm, elbow, and some shoulder conditions. 

    Academic Interests & Accomplishments

    Striving to advance the practice of Hand Surgery, he takes a very active role in both basic science and clinical research. Dr. Kane has participated in both clinical and basic science research projects funded by the NIH and the American Society of Surgery of the Hand ASSH/AFSH. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters and has given a multitude of national and international presentations.

    Dr. Kane oversees and leads the research team at The Philadelphia Hand Center. He has recently been appointed the Director of Clinical Research at the Hand Rehabilitation Foundation.

    He's won various awards for his research including the Michael Ehrlich Basic Science Research Award, the Peter Trafton Orthopaedic Trauma Research Award, and the Kilfoyle Award that given to the most influential resident research paper, New England Orthopaedic Society.

    By serving on the Public Education Committee for the American Society of Surgery for the Hand, Dr. Kane and the committee maintains patient-focused education content for the hand and upper extremity on a national level.
